Medical Information - E-mail from Tom Sousa

Hello All,

This is the first of many e-mails that I plan to send as the time for summer camp approaches.

MEDICAL FORMS - Attached you will find a medical information sheet along with the various medical forms that have to be filled out prior to camp. If you can not download or open these Adobe files, call me at work (889-8900) and I can fax the forms to you, mail them to you, or arrange to hand them to you in person. If your son attended camp in prior years you’ll note that the 2007 medical forms have significant changes. New procedures require the Doctor’s signature in more places on the forms. There are also two new forms required – one form if your son has a specific allergy, and another form if your son has to take a medication while at camp. Please note that both the resident camp and day camp medical forms are two pages each. Every parent/leader must submit a medical form – even if you are only there for one day as a volunteer at the day camp. Scouts require a physical every three years (but the updated medical form must be signed by the doctor each year). Those of us who are over the age of 40 require an annual physical. If you have not already done so I urge you to please schedule your physical exams now.

RESIDENT CAMP - Mr. Shimchick and I will attend resident camp as leaders for the entire time. At last count we have eight scouts signed up for resident camp, and we anticipate several more. We could really use one (ideally two) more parent(s) t to attend the resident camp with us as a leader. If you can’t go for the entire week, please consider spending two or three days with us, which would be a big help. George Shimchick and I will both be crossing over to Boy Scouts next year, so this is our last year of Cub Scout Resident Camp. It would be very helpful to have some Web I leaders attend in order to gain experience for next year.

DAY CAMP – This summer I can not attend both the resident and day camp like last year, but my son is attending both so I will do my one day as a leader at day camp. Please remember that all day camp parents are expected to be a car pool driver at least one day, and to volunteer at the camp for at least one day. Penny Shimchick and I will contact the day camp parents to schedule their driving and camp attendance. As day camp drivers we will also contact you to obtain your car, auto insurance, and driver’s license information. We have to know how many seats are available for scouts in the vehicle you drive that day, so we can plan and resource the car pool accordingly. If you already know that a certain day of the week is better for you, let us know right away and we will do our best to accommodate your request.

I will distribute recommended packing lists.

One lesson learned from last year is that each scout should bring an extra pair of socks and a dry wash cloth for each day. They will do a great deal of walking and wet or dirty socks can lead to blisters.

I will send updated info on a regular basis.

Please contact me if you have any questions, concerns, or comments.

Here’s looking forward to a safe, healthy, fun, and productive Cub Scout summer camp 2007!
