2012 PINEWOOD DERBY SCHEDULE:
RACE DAY PROCEDURE
1. PIT STOP WORKBENCH: Pre weigh your car and make last minute adjustments at the Pit Stop workbench. Please be neat and clean up after yourself. No graphite allowed in the school!
2. REGISTRATION & INSPECTION: Proceed to the registration area. Each car will be weighed and inspected by Race Officials. If a car does not pass inspection, the owner will be informed of the reason for failure, and may correct the problem during the official weigh-in time period. The specifications and rules to follow will be strictly enforced.
3. COMPETITION: Once cars have been registered, weighed, and inspected, they will remain in the hands of race committee until the end of competition. Trophies will be awarded at the completion of each rank. Trophies: 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place, Scouts' Choice and Leaders' Choice will be awarded for each rank. The family division has fastest and artistic awards.

• LENGTH - 7 inches maximum
• HEIGHT - 5 inches maximum
• WEIGHT- 5 ounces maximum
• WIDTH BETWEEN THE WHEELS - 1 3/4 inches.
• WHEELBASE- 4 3/8 inches +/- 1/8 inches (distance between axles from front to rear) as delivered.
• BOTTOM CLEARANCE- 3/8 inches MIN between car and track.
ADDITIONAL CAR RULES
1. Only Official Cub Scout Grand Prix Pinewood Derby Kits, obtained from the Boy Scouts, are permitted. You must use the axles, wheels, and block of wood that is provided in the kit.
2. Please follow the instructions included with the derby kits.
3. The car must have been made during the current year.
4. Axles & wheels:
- Clamp marks, formed during formation of the head, may be removed from the axles.
- Mold seams may be removed from wheels, however the width of the wheel must not be
changed. NO reductions in width or diameter, or changes in shape are allowed.
- The original axle slots in the wood block may be filled and re-cut to insure that they are ‘square’, but the original wheel base dimension must be maintained.
5. Lubrication: Use dry lubricants only. All lubricants must be applied before entering school!
6. Attachments: weights, steering wheel, driver, decals, painting, and interior detail, etc are permissible, but must be firmly attached.
7. The body may be shaped, hollowed out, or built up from the original block, as long as it meets all other specifications.
